A Poem from the Class of 1950
The Grad Class of 1950
One summer day in June it suddenly came to pass
In 1950 we were the Richmond High Graduating Class
Each struck out with hopes and thoughts swirling in our head
Dreaming of our future and the times that lay ahead.
Some went to King Edward then hustled off to UBC
Others went to Teachers College to fulfill their destiny
The military for some was a dream they did pursue
We had a doctor, lawyer, pharmacist and businessmen too
The fishing industry now regretfully a thing of the past
Managed to get one or two of us when their net was cast.
Secretarial school in Vancouver caught others attention
So many various careers - too many to mention
We married young and in some cases it didn’t last
Our careers now over are a thing of the past
Our children have grown with broods of their own
In many cases we are without spouse and living alone
We’ve experienced joy, love, heartbreak and sorrow
Always looking for a beautiful and brighter tomorrow
Our numbers have dwindled down to relative few
Living each day to the fullest is how we all grew
In June 2020 a full 70 years will have passed
For the remaining few grads the die has been cast
Our days are numbered this is something we knew
But now we can be known as the Survivable Few

RICHMOND SECONDARY SCHOOL LIBRARY
RSS LIBRARY @rss_library - May 2
We are grateful to @RichmondSD38 and @Richmond_Alumni for their generous grants so that we can continue to transform our library space into a Library Learning Commons to support innovation and student collaboration.
Betty Chung @SraChung - RSS Teacher/Librarian . May 2
Over the past 2 years we have changed @rss_library by removing outdated books and shelving units by relocating furniture. With generous grants from @RichmondSD38 and @Richmond_Alumni, we bought multimedia tables and technology to support student collaboration.

Bernard Donald Reid March 21, 1923 - January 14, 2019
REID - Bernard (Bernie) Reid of Vancouver, B.C. passed away peacefully at Surrey Memorial Hospital on the evening of January 14, 2019, just three months shy of his 96th birthday.
He was born in a log house in Northern Saskatchewan on March 21, 1923. He was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Marie. He was also the last of his immediate family, Kenneth Reid, Gertrude MacDonald and the twins, Verna Caunce an Evelyn Dennis. His guidance, wisdom and love will be missed by everyone he touched. He is survived by his daughter Lynne (Roland) L'Heureux, his son, Donnie (Jennifer) Reid, his two grandchildren, Devon and Ashley (Clayton Tietzmann) L'Heureux and his four wondrous great-grandchildren, Quinten L'Heureux, Gabrielle, Bradley and Elizabeth Tietzmann.
Bernie was a devoted husband, who loved travelling, family gatherings, and telling stories to all that would listen. He had an amazing life, living through the Great Depression and the Second World War. He and his wife loved the summers spent at the Jolly Acre on Mara Lake where he taught endless kids how to waterski. He became a Freemason in 1948 and wore his 60 Year Jewel with pride. After the war, he became a teacher and then an Administrator in Richmond, B.C. There was nowhere in the City of Richmond that he could walk where he didn't know someone. He loved his 'kids' and was a fixture at numerous reunions, including a 65 Reunion where the 'kids' were 84 years old.
Lynne and Donnie would like to thank the staff in the Palliative Care Unit of Surrey Memorial Hospital for their kindness, warmth and compassion for our Dad and to us; these are special people.
There will be a private Memorial Service on January 26th at the Masonic Cemetery in Burnaby, B.C. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you donate to your personal charity in our Dad's name.
Mr. Reid was a Vice Principal at Richmond High from 1966 to 1974.
He was very well respected by the staff and students at RHS.
He always made time to attend reunions when invited and he attended many events at RHS after his retirement.
Bernie had a great memory, he remembered the names of many students and always took an interest in reminiscing.
I was so fortunate to have had him as a Vice Principal in 1971 & 1972.
Thanks for everything Mr. Reid
